We Love Helping Seniors with Cats, Dogs, iPhones, and Laptops

(We Embrace Our Civic Duty in Helping Seniors)

 

Monica DuPea says, "Senior Citizens too often live without a cat or dog when they would love to have one but would need help in doing so.  We love helping Seniors adopt a suitable cat or dog from the Reno Nevada Humane Society (win win).  On a case by case basis, we may also be able to help such Seniors care for their pet (especially in ermergencies)."

 

Many Senior Citizens often live their remaining lives isolated and lonely.  "Old School" minds and bodies can have difficulty embracing modern technology, which in turn handicaps their abilities to maintain communication with their friends and families.  Their younger family members can be occupied with their own lives and don’t phone or visit oldsters as much as they want to.  Texting, emailing, and social media allows everyone to easily send pictures and jokes quickly and conveniently through a smart phone or laptop computer. Zooming has also become very popular and is being used widely in the Covid 19 pandemic by churches and other organizations.

 

One would think all old people would be tuned in, but far too many have not made the technology transition. Senior Citizens have been left behind because they don't own the devices, ​or ​don’t have the tech support. That’s where our heroines, the NYEP girls, come in. They offer tech support for free.  This is a match made in heaven because all NYEP girls are volunteers anyway, and this project rates a high priority.

 

Additionally, NYEP helps Seniors by suggesting which device to acquire. For Seniors who do not have the ability to acquire their own device, NYEP will explore different funding sources (donors, family members​, etc.​) to assist Seniors in need with their purchase. Suggested hardware: Apple iPhone or Samsung Galaxy depending on who you know that can give you ongoing assistance besides us.  We have used ​smartphones for sale for less than $200.

Popular Internet services:  If you have ​a smartphone, ​chances are that ​you can use a free local hotspot for your laptop with no additional monthly fee.
